This part of the brain is important because, without it, individuals would not sense fear and would be unaware of the risks they could be taking. In other words, they would be putting themselves in constant danger without noticing.
Individuals with anxiety may have an overactive amygdala, which can cause them more anxiety and put them in a constant state of fear.
Studies show that both serotonin and dopamine play a role in the development of anxiety. For example, the study, “Expression and co-expression of serotonin and dopamine transporters in social anxiety disorder: a multitracer positron emission tomography study,” looked at the roles both neurotransmitters played in the development of social anxiety disorder.
