Avoid dairy products for GERD (Acid Reflux)

Dairy products made from cow’s milk may not cause acid reflux but they are one of the most common triggers of acid reflux and may worsen its symptoms. This is because of the high fat available in these products which can weaken the lower esophageal sphincter (LES), allowing food to backflow from the stomach.

That's why if you suffer from Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), it is important to reduce or eliminate milk, cheese, yoghurt, cream, ice cream, and milk shakes from your diet.

In case you wish to consume dairy products, you will need to switch to low fat or non fat dairy products. As an alternative, you can replace dairy products by coconut, almond, or soy milk.
