Most health experts agree that folic acid is beneficial to reduce skin pigmentation, however some would still require more research to ensure this relation and better understand the relative mechanism.
Accordingly, health experts who recommend taking this supplement suggest that folic acid can reduce skin pigmentation for different types of skin disorders such as vitiligo, loss of skin color, or hyperpigmentation. The latter being a condition that makes some skin areas darker.
Accordingly, they suggest that vitamin B9 helps generate new healthy skin cells and improves melanin production.
Dr. Sanchari Sinha Dutta, Ph.D. in Human Physiology, explains that the combination of folic acid with pantothenic acid “has also shown very promising outcome in removing white patches” thus reducing the vitiligo.
Nevertheless, other health experts are still in doubt about the beneficiary effects of folic acid for skin pigmentation. Accordingly, they believe that there's no conclusive evidence yet and require more research to ensure the relation between folic acid and skin pigmentation.
