Overall, there is a major agreement among nutritionists and medical experts about following and anti-inflammatory diet for irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). This is supported by the fact that research has clearly defined the role that inflammation can play in IBS by worsening its symptoms.
It has been also reported that many patients link their IBS symptoms with the ingestion of specific foods, which shows that food has an important impact on IBS symptoms.
However, while some experts agree that some foods have actually shown anti-inflammatory effects by decreasing CRP and other inflammatory markers, they still find it hard to believe that the anti-inflammatory diet can treat IBS and reduce its symptoms.
Accordingly, they still require additional scientific research and evidence in order to confirm that the anti-inflammatory diet can cure IBS.
Supporters of the anti-inflammatory diet to treat IBS believe that the anti-inflammatory diet is effective in relieving the related symptoms due to the fact that inflammation is an important trait that accompanies this condition.
Subsequently, the anti-inflammatory diet suggests food types that are rich in antioxidants, omega 3 fatty acids and fibers such as fish, olive oil, beans, fruits and vegetables. They have anti-inflammatory properties that relieve IBS symptoms, as agreed by most medical and nutrition experts.
It is also agreed that fiber can alleviate IBS symptoms such as constipation and diarrhea.
Furthermore, it is concurred that the anti-inflammatory diet is beneficial because it removes food types that trigger IBS symptoms such as alcohol and caffeine.
In addition, the anti-inflammatory diet replaces high fat, high sugar, processed and refined foods by fresh and wholefoods that can actually decrease inflammation and help in relieving IBS symptoms.
There is little scientific or medical opposition recorded against following an anti-inflammatory diet to treat IBS symptoms.
However, few medical experts are still skeptical about the claim that the anti-inflammatory diet can really cure IBS or relieve its symptoms.
This is despite the fact that they do agree that some foods have actually shown anti-inflammatory effects by decreasing CRP and other inflammatory markers.
Accordingly, they require more specific research in order to come up with clear evidence and a clear understanding about how all this works.
