Overall, there’s a common agreement among most nutritionists and healthcare experts about the benefits of the DASH diet for heart diseases.
This is mostly thought because the DASH diet is a healthy eating plan that can help reduce blood pressure which is a key factor for developing heart diseases.
Accordingly, this can be achieved by limiting salt intake, and incorporating calcium, potassium, and magnesium rich foods that can help regulate sodium levels in the body, and relax the blood vessels further.
Furthermore, the diet provides adequate quantities of fiber which has also shown to be effective in reducing blood pressure.
In addition to lowering blood pressure, the diet limits the bad fats that could block the arteries as well, and hence lead to heart diseases.
Many studies and clinical evidences are available to back up these claims.
For instance, a study titled “Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension Diet Concordance and Incident Heart Failure: The Multi-Ethnic Study of Atherosclerosis” showed that individuals under 75 who followed the DASH diet had a 40% reduced risk of heart failure compared to those who didn’t follow a similar eating plan.
