What science says about Metabolic Typing Diet

The metabolic typing diet is controversial topic, especially because it is not adequately supported by research. Accordingly, a limited number of nutritionists and healthcare experts advocate for this diet and agree on the science behind it.

On the one hand, supporters of the diet believe that this diet can have tremendous overall health benefits because it provides the right food and ratio of macronutrients for each metabolic type. Accordingly, it can improve the body immunity and help with weight loss. It can also prevent many chronic diseases.

On the other hand, opponents of this diet refute the claim that metabolic types are limited to three categories because the  metabolic types do not represent all individuals. Some opponents also argue that some metabolic type diets are unhealthy because they are high in saturated fats, which can be harmful to human health.

Accordingly, this diet remains a debatable topic. Furthermore, there is no real evidence or reliable scientific research available to prove if it is beneficial or not. There are also no case studies available to substantiate any of its claims.

Opinion in favor of following the Metabolic Typing Diet

Supporters of the metabolic diet believe that not all individuals are the same, so one diet type does not fit everyone. Instead, a person’s diet should depend on the individual’s metabolic type and how the body produces and processes energy.

Based on this theory, they were able to define three metabolic types. Each one requires a specific combination of foods and a specific ratio of macronutrients for it to be beneficial.

If a person follows the appropriate diet plan based on his or her metabolic type, the individual will have better bodily functions and improved immunity. The diet can treat a person’s medical conditions and help the person lose weight as well.

Skeptical views about the Metabolic Typing Diet

Many health experts and dietician disagree with the metabolic typing diet theory and believe it is a pseudo science because they do not believe that three metabolic types represent all individuals. Accordingly, the metabolic typing diet does not represent all the nutritional needs for individuals. They also argue that the diet’s macronutrient recommendations are not balanced.

Furthermore, the diet’s opponents argue that some diet types like the protein type are very high in saturated fats. A high-fat diet can be dangerous as it can lead to many health conditions such as heart disease.

They are also wary of the diet because up until today, there are no formal studies that support this diet or its various claims. Scientists need to conduct much more research to provide evidence that supports the theory behind the metabolic typing diet.
