Dr. Judyth Reichenberg-Ullman, a board-certified naturopathic physician specializing in homeopathy, discusses how homeopathy helped several patients with anxiety.
Homeopathy for Anxiety
Aug 9, 2020
Homeopathy for anxiety uses mixtures of herbal, mineral, and other natural products to relieve anxiety symptoms, explains Dr. Judyth Reichenberg-Ullman (board-certified naturopathic physician specializing in homeopathy, and best selling author of multiple books). These very dilute homeopathic concoctions would sometimes be toxic in high doses.
The Anxiety and Depression Association of America report that anxiety is the most prevalent mental health condition in the United States, affecting 18.1% of the adult population each year. While many people experience relief from therapy, others find that therapy alone is not enough. Anti-anxiety medications may work for some people but can also trigger unpleasant side effects.

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) does not regulate homeopathic treatments, so the ingredients in these treatments may be less consistent. It is essential to speak to a doctor before trying homeopathic approaches.
The theory behind homeopathy is that “like cures like,” and the lower the dosage, the more effective a treatment can be. If a person has an illness, a practitioner may recommend that they take very low doses of a substance that would cause the same symptoms as their illness in high doses.

Homeopaths believe that lower doses of the same ingredient might reverse symptoms. We’re living through challenging times right now and some people may be feeling more anxious than usual. Try homeopathy to help manage rising levels of stress and anxiety. Anxiety is a normal and natural response to stressful situations. It triggers our body’s inbuilt mechanism to help us get away from a threat and it can be helpful to understand what’s going on behind the scenes when we feel our stress levels rising.

As we start to become anxious, our adrenal glands release various hormones to help us cope with whatever stressor we’re up against. Cortisol increases the glucose levels in our bloodstream to feed our vital organs when it’s needed the most. At the same time, it slows down some other bodily functions that aren’t so crucial in a fight or flight situation. Meanwhile, adrenaline increases the heart rate, elevates our blood pressure, and boosts energy and Oxygen supplies to where it is most needed. Together this hormonal combination gives us the best chance of coping with the situation we’re facing.
But while this response can be a life-saver in some circumstances, a state of anxiety that becomes too intense or too prolonged can have a detrimental impact on our health and well-being. Symptoms can vary amongst individuals, but commonly include feeling nervous, restless or tense, trembling, rapid breathing, and palpitations.
Conventional treatment for chronic anxiety usually involves psychological therapy such as counseling or CBT which can help people to process their experiences and find ways to minimize and deal with their stress. In some instances, medication may be prescribed, but this often comes with unwanted side effects or concerns about drug dependency.

Homeopathy offers a safe and natural option to help us manage anxiety. The British Homeopathic Association, which uses this approach, highlights the following remedies for anxiety:
- Arsenicum album: This herbal remedy may help with chronic anxiety, depression, and gastrointestinal symptoms.
- Ignatia: This may help depression or anxiety following a sudden trauma or shock.
- Natrum muriaticum: This may help chronic stress and mild depression.
- Sepia: Sepia may help people who feel drained and unloved, and it may be particularly useful with postpartum mental health issues.
