All Arthritis is not the Same
Gout is only one type of arthritis, and it is important to know there are different types of arthritis.
People develop various forms of arthritis due to different reasons, and you address various forms of arthritis differently.
Gout is the buildup of sharp crystals of uric acid in joints, which results in joint pain. When the body breaks down purines in foods, it produces a by-product called uric acid.
Eating foods high in purines can result in the excessive buildup of uric acid in the blood, joints, as well as other tissues throughout the body.
Since the accumulation of uric acid in joints results in joint pain, the buildup classifies it a form of arthritis specifically called gout.
Joint pain develops for various reasons. Osteoarthritis occurs when the cartilage between bones breaks down, allowing bones to rub against each other.
Rheumatoid Arthritis results from the body mistakenly attacking the joints.
It is important to know there are various types of arthritis so you can address each form specifically and properly.
Treating Gout
The natural approach was to limit the consumption of all foods high in purines, because they were all believed to cause gout.
Certain animal as well as plant foods contain high levels of purines. Health organizations recommended limiting the consumption all food that contained high amounts of purines.
Health organizations also recommend limiting the consumption of alcohol[1], since there is a strong association with alcohol and gout.
Health organizations assumed that high purine intake from all food sources resulted in gout. Research[2] now shows that purines in plant foods are not associated with an increase in gout.
Purines in plant foods aren’t associated with gout because plant foods are packaged with minerals, dietary fiber, and phyto-nutrients that protect against uric acid buildup.
Consuming an alkaline plant based diet based on the Dr. Sebi nutritional guide is protective against gout, because is increases the alkalinity of the blood and urine.
Studies show raising the pH of urine clears uric acid from the body.[3]
To naturally address gout you should avoid consuming alcohol and eating animal foods high in purine.
Also drink plenty of water a day to stay properly hydrated as well as to help flush uric acid out of the body. Drinking a gallon of spring water throughout the day helps a lot.
