Acupuncture for Allergies

Whether they’re seasonal or chronic, health experts say acupuncture can help! “I would ask any patient who has allergies to take them more serious and to go see your acupuncturist to get them taken care of,” advised Renee Sarra, an acupuncturist for Lee Health.

In order to treat the problem, Sarra works to find the root cause of the allergy. “There could be many reasons what caused the allergies in the first place,” she said.

By evaluating the patient’s medical history, she works to determine the cause of the allergy and then places tiny needles in different areas of the body to help treat the symptoms. “We’re able to activate the lymph system, the thymus, the bone marrow, and the white blood cells and so on, and we do that with a needle, and the allergies get better because we’re just treating an imbalance,” Sarra explained.

If a patient’s symptoms are chronic, it may take more than one session before the patient starts to feel relief from their allergies. “It may have gone deeper into the body, and so we have to treat multiple areas now,” she said.

Allergies can often be triggered by things in the environment, but through acupuncture, Sarra can help patients better manage their symptoms.
