6 reasons why Selenium may be one of the best natural ingredients and vitamins for your thyroid. Selenium can prevent thyroid damage, reduce thyroid antibodies, and help with glutathione production. MANY thyroid patients are selenium deficient to boot. 

Did you know that selenium is incredibly important for your thyroid? 

Selenium serves some important functions in your entire body but it also has some very important benefits specific to your thyroid gland. 

Today, I am going to talk about why you should consider using Selenium if you have thyroid problems and how exactly it benefits your thyroid gland. 

#1. ENHANCES T4 to T3 conversion. 

T4 to T3 conversion is probably the single most important benefit that selenium provides to your body because your body only really cares about getting enough T3. Not enough selenium means not enough T3 and that's a problem. 

#2. REDUCES thyroid antibodies.

Thyroid antibodies (such as thyroid peroxidase and thyroglobulin antibodies) cause DAMAGE to the thyroid gland. We have clinical studies that show that taking selenium can reduce these antibodies.  

#3. DECREASES thyroid inflammation. 

Thyroid specific inflammation is what triggers thyroid autoimmunity. By taking selenium you can protect your thyroid gland from damage. 

#4. REDUCES TOTAL inflammation. 

Total body inflammation is obviously bad for your body but also reduces thyroid conversion. Taking selenium helps reduce this total body inflammation. 

#5. BOOSTS glutathione. 

Glutathione is considered the master antioxidant and it is what protects your body from damage from oxidative stress. Taking selenium can help BOOST these levels. 

#6. Has ANTI VIRAL properties. 

Selenium also has some anti-viral properties which is interesting as it may be one of the reasons that it helps prevent thyroid inflammation and damage. We know that certain viruses, such as EBV, can trigger Hashimoto's thyroiditis.
