Do you look your age? The secret of living longer and appearing younger has been around since the beginning of humankind. That fountain of youth is still hiding in some cave. However, don’t worry. Why? Because we have an alternative that will work as well. The best trick is to take care of yourself. That means making the right decisions to feed your body what it needs. Nevertheless, you might be doing something that is not great for your mind, body, or soul. And it will reflect on the outside. Sure eating poorly and not exercising will takes its toll. But not doing the right thing can make your appearance worse, too.

It’s great to quit smoking or protect your skin with sunscreen lotion. We will discuss those, too. But there is more you can do to take care of your body and health. Changing a few of your habits and being aware of your body and brain will do wonders to have the life you always wanted. And believe us, it’s not too hard either. It’s all about committing to do better for your future. So here we share with you 25 habits you should start or stop. That way, you can live a long, happy life. 25. Smoking can make your skin get wrinkles faster.

We all know that cigarettes are not suitable for you in many ways. But one thing that people do not talk about as much is how smoking over time can make your skin dry and give the appearance of wrinkles. According to the Mayo Clinic, it can speed up the aging process showing crow’s feet, uneven skin complexion, puffiness below the eyes, thinner lips, wrinkles around the mouth, a grayish tone in lighter skin, and more. Having premature wrinkles is a no-go, mainly because it can even turn your hair grey! But why do cigarettes damage your so much your skin?   

Cigarettes have so much going on. Tobacco alone has almost 4,000 chemical components, which most of it is not great for your body, so the more you do it, the worst is going to get. Including in the components is Nicotine which can cause blood vessels to narrow, which blocks the oxygen flow and nutrients to be delivered to your skin cells. Other chemicals can cause molecular events that can damage your skin elasticity. Plus, the heat and smoke from a single cigarette can damage the surface of the skin. The sad part is that the damage is irreversible, so it is better to stay as far away as you can from cigarettes. 

24. Drinking smoothies will age you faster by giving you wrinkles.

This might sound a bit weird, but remember when you try to drink that extra thick frappuccino, that face you made trying hard to suck on the straw to taste it? Well, that might not help to keep that youthful look on your face. According to this interview with Dr. Heather Woolery-Loyd, and Dr. Rebecca Baxt, straw drinking, same as smoking, can create wrinkles around your mouth because of how we pursed our lips. Repetitive muscle motion over some time will increase those fine lines. It sounds crazy that enjoying your favorite drink can cause wrinkles, but it’s not as bad as you might think. 

Pursing lips is a normal movement for those who like to express emotion, like frowning. Thus, being just a bit conscious about it will be enough. If you are a smoker, the probabilities of getting those wrinkles are higher since our mouth does most of the same movements we do from drinking from a straw, so you can say if you do both actions often, there are higher chances of getting them fast. So go slow with that drink and enjoy! Dr. Woolery-Lloyd says that you will need to drink many smoothies with a straw every day for around 100 minutes for those wrinkles to start showing.

 

23. Not exercising is terrible in many ways.

We all know that exercising is an essential key to staying healthy and living a long life. It will keep us active for much longer, plus you will feel great and energized for decades to come. So what happens when we don’t exercise at all? As you might have guessed, it’s not good at all! Being sedentary for long periods throughout the day can lead to getting two or more diseases in the future. In fact, not moving those muscles will even cause your body to decay faster, and your appearance will look older than your actual age. 

It feels scary, and it’s hard finding time in your day to go to the gym and work out, especially with how busy your life is. But you don’t need to go and do some hardcore fitness routine that many celebrities do. Just go walking around the block (or even in your home!), go cycling, and low impact exercises will help wonders. Every little step will work for you, and it doesn’t need to be a daily thing either. With only three days a week, your body will feel and see the difference. Just put on some music, or watch your favorite show while keeping in shape can do wonders in the long haul. Go slow at first and increase the difficulty over time for best results.
