What science says about Keto Diet / No Carbs Diet

The keto diet is subject to conflicting opinions among medical and healthcare experts.

On one hand, many experts believe that this diet allows the body to produce ketones and use them as an alternative source of energy. These ketones are believed to be very good for health and can provide the body with long lasting energy and great nutritional value.

The supporters of the keto diet believe that this diet is great for weight loss. Plus, it can help in curing many medical conditions such as epilepsy, Alzheimer’s disease, Type 2 diabetes, hypertension, among many others. There is also lot of research and evidence available to support these claims.  

However, on the other hand, there are many experts that oppose the keto diet as they don’t think it is good and healthy to follow. 
For instance, while many agree that it can be very effective for weight loss, there have many concerns since this diet eliminates several food groups that have great nutritional values. 

Furthermore, because the keto diet focuses on fat, there are fears that it can lead to heart diseases.

Accordingly, if this diet is required, it should be followed only for a specific period of time as it might have negative health implications in the longer run.  

Opinion in favor of following the keto diet:

Proponents of the diet believe that the release of ketones triggered by this diet is very good for the overall health. Ketones are believed to provide the body and organs with better nutritional value and long-lasting energy compared to glucose.

Accordingly, they can protect the brain functions, and help in the case of Alzheimer, epilepsy, and other brain disorders. Based on research results done on keto diet to treat epilepsy, there was a 50 percent success rate among adults and 90 percent for children.

The proponents of this diet also believe that keto diet provides satiety and helps in burning fat, hence it is beneficial for weight loss as well. In this regard, there have been many positive results from people who followed the keto diet in terms of weight loss, diabetes, overall health, and physical performance.

The diet is also believed to lower hypertension, reduce triglycerides, and improve good cholesterol.

However, the long-term effects of the keto diet are still unknown. Hence, more research is still needed on this subject.

 

Opinion against following the keto diet:

Opponents of the keto diet disagree with this type of diet and define it as a disordered eating system. For them, the keto diet does not conform to proper nutritional guidelines and can lead to nutrient deficiencies. Hence, this is suggested to have very bad implications on overall health. 

Opponents of keto also argue that the high level of ketones produced by the diet can poison the body. Accordingly, a diet so high in fat cannot be healthy or should not be maintained for a long period of time.
