Are you wondering if high powered laser therapy can help your back pain? In this video, I’m going to explain what laser therapy is, how it works, how it can heal your injuries, and eliminate your pain.

What’s crackin’? It’s Dr. Nevel aka Dr. Ginja Ninja. If we’ve haven’t met before, I’m a sports chiropractic physician, USPTA tennis professional, and medical director at Sport & Spinal Rehab in Jupiter, Florida. On this channel, I explain different types of injuries and the treatments needed to Eliminate Your Pain and Get You Back in the Game. If you’re new here, consider subscribing. With that being said, let’s turn on this laser and get lit.

What is High Power Laser Therapy? High Power, High Dose Laser Therapy is a class 4 therapeutic laser, designed to stimulate healing and eliminate pain. It’s different from cold lasers and it’s so effective, that every major sports organization including the NBA, NFL, MLB, and the US Olympic training centers all utilize the healing benefits of class 4 laser.

Laser therapy uses specific wavelengths of light to penetrate tissues, increasing the metabolism of the cells. This happens through a process call photobiomodulation. Photobiomodulation essentially “bios-stimulates” tissue growth, tissue repair, and turbo charges your cells to speed up the healing process. One of the ways the laser speeds the healing is through the activation of mitochondria, which are the powerhouse of your cells and produce the energy molecules in your body called ATP. When the photons stimulate the mitochondria, more ATP energy molecules are released, and the metabolism of the cells increase. High Dose Laser Therapy reduces inflammation, stimulates capillary and collagen development and is a potent activator of stem cells, which are integral in the healing of damaged tissue. What does this mean to you? It means the time it takes your injury to heal is drastically reduced with virtually no side effects.

In my office, I use a Diowave 60W Class 4 laser which allows deeper penetration than most other lasers on the market. The Diowave laser can be used with continuous wave therapy or super pulsed therapy. The continuous laser therapy is great for treating larger areas and for diffuse pain like advanced arthritis. With continuous wave laser therapy, patients may feel a warm and soothing sensation. Therefore, we have to keep the laser moving, so the tissues don’t get too hot.

When patients have focal pathologies like disc herniations, stenosis, sprained ligaments, or tears, we use the super-pulsed wave therapy. With this setting, the laser will pulse faster that your eyes can see, eliminating the thermal effect of the laser. What makes super-pulsed wave therapy so incredible, is the ability to hold the laser over a focal injury, sending all the laser’s energy directly into the injury without overheating tissue.

When it comes to treatment, different people and different injuries respond to different laser levels. If you understimulate, which happens with some of the weaker lasers, you won’t see the laser’s benefits fast enough. However, with these high powered lasers, it’s also possible to overstimulate an injury so it’s important that the doctor and staff are highly trained on high dose laser therapy so you get the best benefits and fastest healing times.

I’ve successfully used high power laser therapy on a variety of conditions with no side effects. I’ve had great results with conditions including arthritis, disc bulges and disc herniations, sprained ligaments, strained muscles, carpal tunnel syndrome, neuropathy, shoulder rotator cuff tears, meniscus tears of the knee, and foot plantar fasciitis just to name a few.

Which leads me into the question of the day, have you tried class 4 laser therapy before? If so, what injury did you have and how did your body respond? Drop me a comment below and let everyone know.
