The most common complaint when it comes to arthritis  is pain, swelling and stiffness in the joints . Pain and swelling may be the finger, knee joints, spine etc. The most common form of arthritis are rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, ankylosing spondylitis. Sometimes one of the joints is affected or one or more joints maybe affected. Sometimes joint inflammation or pain may be a symptom of other diseases also like SLE, Systemic Lupus Erythematosus. The ancient ayurvedic texts correspond arthritis to sandikavatha, that is osetoarthritis and ama vata, that is rheumatoid arthritis. Here the treatment is not for the disease. Here we treat the person. Each individual or a person or his constitution is unique and the treatment is tailored according to that person. Treatment starts in the process of digestion itself When there is a weak digestive power, there is accumulation of toxins or ama instead of the useful nutrient issues which has to be accumulated in the body, this is ama or toxins gets accumulated in the blood and in turn vata gets accumulated in the colon. In one line I can say that these toxins accumulations and immune dysfunctions. So immediate treatment concern is removal of the toxins, that is ama and strengthening of the agni, that is the digestive power. There are two forms of treatment in Ayurveda, that is the shodhana treatment or the purification treatment and the shamana with internal medicines. Rushoshiles or the arbamental formulations also plays a very important role in the treatment of arthritis. Depending upon the chronicity or the severity of the condition, panchakarma treatment is advocated. The most important forms of virechana, in Ayurvedic treatment they say that is virechana is the treatment and janabasti and pataliswedha are the other forms of treatment that helps in alleviating the pain in arthritis. In conclusion, treat the joint pain, when it is earliest stage. Don’t delay it.
